Announcements January 25

Reading is the Key

The more you read, the more you learn.  Students took benchmark tests last week, and there was one connection.  Students who were more fluent readers with higher comprehension made higher scores.  The STAAR test will be administered this spring to 3rd and 4th graders in Reading and Math and to 4th graders in Writing.  These tests are very challenging and require students to not only be good readers but also critical thinkers.

Parents can help their children be proficient readers by having them read every night.  Reading for 15 minutes every night builds fluency, comprehension and vocabulary.   Just like riding a bicycle, playing a sport or playing a video game, the more time you spend doing reading, the better you will get at it.

Parent Communication

If you have concerns or questions about your child's reading level or performance, please contact your child's teacher.  They have the most information about your child and can tell you exactly what strengths and weaknesses your child has in reading, math, writing, science and social studies.  By having a frequent and open line of communication with the teacher, you and the teacher can work together to help your child improve in their learning.
